EnerJ-meeting Lyon 2026: after the measurement, who decides

On Tuesday 15 September 2026, Programini was at the Start-up Village of EnerJ-meeting Lyon, Palais de la Bourse, stand ST13bis. The product on the roll-up banner was OCTOWISE. One sentence was enough: “Your buildings have things to tell you.” What visitors came to check next was more specific. After the measurement, who sees the drift, who decides, and whether the data stays with the manager.

A show for specifiers, in the main hall

EnerJ-meeting is not a generalist trade show. One day, one venue, decision-makers: building owners, project managers, local authorities, engineering firms and manufacturers meet around the energy and environmental performance of buildings. The 2026 thread, “Build 2050: sufficiency, efficiency, decarbonization, adaptation, desirability”, was written on the facade as much as in the programme.

The Start-up Village sits in the hall, between the aisles and the conference rooms. Foot traffic is short, about two minutes to grasp what a product does. That constraint rules out the exhaustive demo. It forces one question at a time, which, on a subject as loaded as tertiary energy, clarifies more than it reduces.

Almost nobody asked whether OCTOWISE had charts. Charts already exist, often from three tools that do not talk to each other. The question came after the measurement: who sees the drift, who raises the alarm, and where the decision lands. Right after came hosting. Do the data stay with us?

The programme was already about BACS and BMS

The rooms set the frame before the stands did. In room 1, “BACS decree: supervise, steer and optimize your consumption”, then lighting management against the decree. In room 3, “Turnkey BMS… is it enough?”, followed by “Monitoring, IoT and BMS: which complementarities?”. Those titles describe the job better than a feature list: supervision only matters if it meets the decree, and a delivered BMS does not by itself steer a portfolio.

OCTOWISE, Programini’s product for building energy, sits in that gap. On one record you can see whether a building has left its own behaviour, how it compares with the rest of the portfolio, and whether the corrective action was carried out, at what cost. Compliance and real performance meet in the same place, at estate scale. We had already described that path in Building energy: from meters to decisions. In Lyon it came back as questions asked standing up.

In practice, the building record showed four distinct things. A structured BACS register, rather than a PDF annex. A BACS analysis separate from the building analysis, based on the confirmed ADEME energy performance certificate. Collection that complements what is already there, over BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, OPC-UA, APIs or Enedis, without asking to replace everything. A compliance view to tell, across the portfolio, what is ready from what is still blocked.

Four topics, one record

The first topic was detection. A spike at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday is not an anomaly if it belongs to the building’s usual profile. A seasonal signature, crossing month, weekday and hour, learns that profile and limits the noise of fixed thresholds. Operating conditions cover the other case, the rule the operator already knows: a duration, a time window, a recurrence. The alert then goes to the web, email or mobile, depending on the role of the person who must act.

The second was the regulatory file. As long as the tertiary decree, OPERAT, BACS and the energy performance certificate live in separate binders, a site’s compliance status does not really exist: it gets reassembled once a year, often too late to correct the year. In Lyon, climate zone H2, adjustment through degree days is not a methodological detail. A poorly calibrated reference year skews the 2030 target before the first declaration.

The third was cost. Consumption is visible. Real cost, invoice by invoice and building by building, much less so. Reading energy and works invoices only matters if the actuals update the action plan the spend belongs to. Otherwise you add one more table next to the ones that already exist.

The fourth was scale. A local authority, a real-estate firm or a campus is no longer steered site by site: the useful question is where to start. The portfolio map colors the estate by energy certificate, analysis score, alerts or source availability. Each role keeps its own reading. The field works from the mobile app, headquarters from the web.

What two minutes at the stand can show

Stand ST13bis: the OCTOWISE banner and a portfolio demo.

The stand itself was small: a laptop, the banner, two stools. That format forces you to start from a case rather than a table of contents. On screen, a multi-site map, then one building record, then a drift and the alert it triggers. The rest of the product comes after, once the person in front of you has recognized a situation they know.

The point raised earliest, often before that sequence, was hosting. OCTOWISE is installed at the client’s. Consumption, invoices, files and identities stay on their instance, inside their perimeter. The manager keeps control of the series, of access and of reversibility, and the data can leave again through the channels already provided: MCP, OData or integration keys. For buildings, that choice meets what we describe more broadly as data sovereignty.

Two other points came back as soon as the conversation lasted. Collection adapts to the protocols and suppliers already in place, including when equipment is operated by a third party. The analysis learns each building’s own behaviour, which makes it usable across a heterogeneous portfolio without manual tuning site by site. The QR code on the banner did not lead to a brochure: it opened a request for a demo on the visitor’s own estate. Two minutes qualify a topic. They do not settle it.

The hard questions repeated from one meeting to the next, in Lyon and elsewhere, and they rarely concerned a feature. Compatibility with what already exists. Reliability when a meter drops out or a source becomes unavailable, and what happens to the analysis then. How many false alerts, and over what learning period. Full cost, set against savings that are measured rather than estimated. A trade show is also a place to hear those objections before a pilot discovers them six months later.

What an aisle cannot settle

None of these questions can be settled in one sentence, and that is preferable. They frame the real subject, which is proof. OCTOWISE is the Programini product we brought to the stand. The product-side account of the day is published on octowise.fr.

EnerJ-meeting continues: the Paris edition is announced for 23 February 2027 at the Carrousel du Louvre. Thanks to the organizing team, and to everyone who stopped at stand ST13bis. For many tertiary portfolios, measurement has become a given. The decision, and custody of the data, have not.
